  • The images in this series are a precursor to Alice Wasn’t Lost She….Through self-portraiture, I embark on an introspective journey where each image becomes a an opportunity to dismantle a stereotype or believe about who I am and spin the narrative to present a new perspective. Nature, Girl, is both an identity and a statement about finding myself, my peace by simply going outside and communing with nature. I also wanted to challenge the notion of what and who a “nature girl” looks like. The ideal wasn’t meant to be me, and the locale definitely wasn’t supposed to be Brooklyn, or Teopoztlan, Mexico, but I used my camera to flip the script and present my idea of what communing with nature could look like for a black woman like me.
